October 7, 2011: Shooter's Committee on Political Education recognizes David Jensen as "Legal Advocate of the Year" for his legal work on behalf of the Second Amendment.

David Jensen is a litigation, trial, and appellate attorney who represents clients in cases pending throughout the United States from his office in New York. Mr. Jensen focuses much of his practice on commercial, constitutional, insurance, and real property disputes, and often litigates in the federal court system. Mr. Jensen also handles maritime and transportation matters as Of Counsel to DeOrchis & Partners, LLP. Mr. Jensen is admitted to practice in the States of New York and New Jersey, and in various federal district courts and appellate courts throughout the country. He has also appeared pro hac vice in other courts in state and federal courts.
Mr. Jensen began practice with the former Healy & Baillie, LLP, a renowned New York admiralty firm that later merged with AmLaw 100 firm Blank Rome LLP. Mr. Jensen has practiced with Blank Rome, and also with Duane Morris LLP, another firm in the AmLaw 100. Mr. Jensen clerked for the Honorable David A. Faber, then Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, in 2003 and 2004.
Originally from Washington State, Mr. Jensen graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in economics after two and a half years of study. At age twenty-one, Leader Insurance Company (then a subsidiary of Great American) hired him as the youngest adjuster in its company. One year later, he became the youngest claims branch manager in the company. He also worked as a senior adjuster at Progressive Insurance. Mr. Jensen left claims handling to attend Washington & Lee University School of Law, where he was an editor on the Law Review and published an article on the apportionment of damages under maritime law. Mr. Jensen graduated cum laude in 2003.

David Jensen litigates and arbitrates a variety of commercial, constitutional, maritime, and insurance-related cases throughout the United States. He represents both companies and individuals, as well as nonprofit organizations. Mr. Jensen has practical experience handling litigation at all levels, from municipal courts to the U.S. Supreme Court. He particularly enjoys the challenge of resolving novel and complicated disputes with innovative strategies.
Commercial & Business Law. Mr. Jensen works to find creative solutions for companies and individuals who face business-related disputes and other legal issues. He has successfully resolved a wide variety of commercial disputes in both litigation and arbitration, including claims for breach of contract, indemnity, non-payment, disputes between partners, and claims for injunctive or emergent relief. Mr. Jensen also assists clients in reviewing and preparing contracts and agreements.
Insurance & Insurance Coverage. Mr. Jensen has represented both insurance carriers and policyholders to resolve coverage issues, and he has both obtained coverage for policyholder clients whose carriers denied or reserved coverage, and helped carriers to uphold coverage denials. He has obtained coverage for clients facing claims denied by their carriers, such as claims for trademark or trade dress infringement and for contractual indemnity. He has also assisted clients in obtaining first-party coverage for property losses after their insurance carriers denied coverage. As a former insurance adjuster and claims office manager, he has a keen understanding of insurance law and insurance coverage issues.
Constitutional Law. Mr. Jensen particularly enjoys cases that raise questions of constitutional law and civil rights. He has challenged the constitutionality of state and local laws and policies under both the Second Amendment and the Due Process Clause.
Maritime & Admiralty. Mr. Jensen represents owners, shippers, insurers, NVO’s, and a host of others involved in the international commerce and the transportation of goods in both litigation and arbitration. His experience includes obtaining court orders to both compel and to prohibit the prosecution of claims in arbitration, defending cargo damage claims, obtaining subrogation recoveries for cargo damage, and handling litigation arising from major transportation incidents. Mr. Jensen is the editor of the chapter on “Charterparties” in the Benedict’s on Admiralty Desk Reference, and he has particular experience resolving disputes concerning claims under bills of lading and charterparties. He normally handles maritime and admiralty cases as “Of Counsel” to DeOrchis & Partners, LLP.
Real Property. Mr. Jensen has helped clients resolve real property disputes regarding boundary lines, easements, adverse possession, and prescription, and has also assisted clients seeking to determine and/or protect their interests under lease agreements. Mr. Jensen has represented title insurers, property owners, and tenants.
